Claims data from South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Our latest Freedom of Information (FOI) request reveals some interesting information:

  • The Trust received 156 requests for medical records from solicitors in the year ending 5 April 2021. This is down from 250 the previous year.
  • They received 99 formal letters of claim, up from 71 the previous year.

I suspect that the decrease in requests is probably down to Covid. The increase in formal letters of claim appears quite steep but is likely due to the large number of requests for records the previous year (250).  On this basis, the number of formal letters of claim should decrease next year.  We shall see.

National figures confirm that the overall number of paid out claims do not change from much from year to year.  Time will tell if this trend is about to change.
